Visit the small hill in autumn and you will be surrounded by the famous Grape-Harvest’s party of Montmartre. The vineyards are an ancient landmark on the hill. Bacchus, the God of Wine had a temple here. The Abbess had their own wine press close to Saint Pierre Church.

At the end of XV century, ruined by wars « Les Dames de Paris », were forced to sell their land. Wine-growers and ploughmans took place on the mound and and cultivated the vineyards (le Sacalie, La Goutte d’Or, Clos Berthaud, la Sauvageonne, la Vigne de Bel Air).

In 1516, burgesses switch over to offensive to reduce a number of taverns.

In the capital Wine taxes were imposed on business owners in Paris. Therefore, patrons fled to the hills where they frequented road houses and cabarets which flourished yearly.

In 1929, the painter Francisque Poulbot and some friends saved a municipal ground from property developers planting some vine plants. In 1933, three thousand seedling of Thomery and three seedling of Morgon were planted.
The « Grape-Harvest’s Party » was celebrated for the first time the following year. It is still celebrated today. Many important people are invited including stars, delegations and «Les Chevaliers du Taste-Vin » (the knights of Wine Tasting) from different french provinces.
Everybody comes to celebrate « Le Clos Montmartre » ; today the only real vineyard in Paris).
