As soon as you come in to the Basilica, you will be impressed by a big and beautiful mosaic. The Christ, with his large arms opens, welcoming all mans. Montmartre’s name come from an interesting discover : an ossuary ! place, where the firsts Christians became martydoms, whence the name of Mons Martyrium. You will understand easily why Montmartre hillock have a religious vocation. It’s always on the hill places where we find spirituality !.

In june 1689, , saint Marguerite-Marie ask to the king Louis XVI, for god’s sake to build and sacred a sanctuary in Sacré-Coeur. In 1823, mother Marie de Jesus asked for French’s consecration was celebrated in Sacré-Coeur. Fifty years later, in 1871, two Christians MM. Legent and Rouald de Fleury,made the vow to work very hard for build in Paris a church in honour of Jesus . At that time same time France was invaded and the Pope was in prison. That’s why for God’s sake, they made this act of faith, and they asked all French people to join them. That was the beginning of a « National vow ».
July 24,1873, L’Assemblée Nationale française, à une majorité de 244 voix, déclare d’utilité publique l’érection d’une église sur les hauteurs de Montmartre. Et c’est ainsi que le 1er Août 1885 the French national assembly proclaim the public utility to raise up a church in Montmartre. Like that, began in august 1885 the perpetual adoration of sacred saints.

In june 5, 1891 Montmartre Sacré-Cœur Basilica was solemnly inaugurated. In October,1919 the basilica consecration for this juncture, the Pope Benoit XV widen Montmartre’s mission beyond France.
